Colon Cancer STARS Honored to Receive the David Jagelman, MD, Award for Advocacy in Colorectal Cancer

Colon Cancer STARS is thrilled to share that our dedication to advocating for colorectal cancer awareness has been recognized with the David Jagelman, MD, Award for Advocacy in Colorectal Cancer from the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS).

This prestigious award honors the legacy of Dr. David Jagelman, a true champion for colorectal cancer patients. He founded and led the Familial Polyposis Registry at the Cleveland Clinic, dedicating his career to patient advocacy and advancing care for those at risk. His relentless commitment inspires our work, and we are deeply honored to receive this recognition in his name.

We were proud to receive this award at the ASCRS Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, from June 1–4, 2024, where our Founder and Program Director, Anita Mitchell Isler, accepted it on behalf of Colon Cancer STARS. Anita's unwavering dedication to raising awareness and supporting patients has been instrumental in driving our mission forward, and we couldn't be more grateful for her leadership.

"Receiving the David Jagelman, MD, Award for Advocacy in Colorectal Cancer is truly humbling," said Anita Mitchell Isler. "This award represents the collective efforts of survivors, caregivers, advocates, and medical professionals who work tirelessly to raise awareness and save lives. Dr. Jagelman's legacy inspires us, and we are committed to carrying his mission forward—ensuring that no one fights colorectal cancer alone."

This award is a testament to the collective power of advocacy, education, and community support. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has stood beside us—partners, advocates, survivors, and supporters. Your dedication fuels our mission to raise awareness, increase early detection, and support those impacted by colorectal cancer.

As we celebrate this achievement, we reaffirm our commitment to carrying forward Dr. Jagelman's legacy and pushing for greater awareness, research, and access to life-saving screenings. Together, we can make a lasting impact.
