  • Carol brings a wealth of experience to the board of directors at Colon Cancer Stars as a seasoned marketing professional with senior-level expertise. With a keen eye for identifying strategic market and communication opportunities, Carol has been in charge of executing comprehensive marketing plans and pioneering innovative branding initiatives for mission-driven organizations throughout her career.

    Carol's decision to join the board is not just a professional move but a profoundly personal one. Her best friend from high school, Anita Mitchell-Isler, is the founder and Executive Director of Colon Cancer Stars and a personal inspiration. This profound friendship, coupled with her firsthand experience with the impact of gastrointestinal diseases, has ignited a commitment and passion within her for the mission of Colon Cancer Stars. 

    Carol's family history includes a legacy of Crohn's and Colitis, conditions closely linked to colorectal cancer. Understanding the importance of early detection and preventative measures, Carol is passionate about raising awareness and supporting initiatives that combat colorectal cancer.

    As a certified PROSCI Change Practitioner, Carol brings a unique and invaluable skill set to the board. Her proficiency in change management methodologies ensures that Colon Cancer Stars can adapt and respond swiftly to evolving challenges and opportunities in the fight against colorectal cancer in Washington State. Her ability to lead initiatives and facilitate stakeholder engagement positions her as a valuable asset in guiding the organization toward its mission.

    Carol's contributions to the outdoor industry were significant and recognized. Her nomination for the Outdoor Industries Women's Coalition (OIWC) Pioneering Woman Award is a testament to her leadership and transformative abilities. This prestigious accolade honors thought leaders transforming the landscapes of the outdoor and snow industries. Carol's recognition in this arena indicates her leadership expertise.

    When not immersed in her marketing endeavors, Carol can often be found outdoors, exploring the picturesque trails of Washington State on hikes or bike rides. A native of Washington for most of her life, she has an unwavering love for her home state and enjoys every opportunity to discover its natural beauty and diverse offerings.

  • Esther Hyun serves as the Corporate Counsel for a global logistics company, bringing a wealth of legal expertise and strategic insight to her role. Before this, she made significant contributions to academia as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Western Washington University, where she shared her knowledge and passion for law with the next generation of legal professionals.

    Esther earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Thomas Jefferson School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Business Administration from Washington State University. She is a licensed attorney in both California and Washington.


    As a dedicated advocate for colorectal cancer awareness, Esther is honored to serve on the board, driven by a personal commitment to making a difference in this critical health area. Esther is the mother of two and shares her personal journey with stage 4 colon cancer on Instagram. Follow her at @parentingwithcancer.

  • Jackie Murphy began her professional career in engineering at Boeing, where she laid the foundation for a diverse and accomplished career. Over the years, she has gained extensive experience in small business, healthcare, consulting, and software technology. Jackie is excited to bring her business and project management expertise to the nonprofit sector and volunteer work.


    Jackie holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Industrial & Systems Engineering from the University of Southern California and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Seattle University.


    As a close friend of Anita Mitchell-Isler for over 30 years, Jackie witnessed Anita's colorectal cancer journey up close and saw the devastating impact this diagnosis can have on the patient and their loved ones. She is humbled and honored to support Anita's vision to eliminate colorectal cancer in Washington State by serving on the board.
