Colon cancer survivor; diagnosed in February 2003 at the age of 50. With the encouragement of a fellow church member and GI doctor, Walter went in for his routine colonoscopy. He was diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer, a malignant tumor found in his colon that had metastasized to a nearby lymph node. Throughout his treatment he was able to continue exercising, at times riding his bike to treatments. After completion of his surgery and chemotherapy treatments, Wally has been cancer-free since 2003.
He joined Colon STARS to promote colon cancer awareness so that more people will take colon cancer screening seriously. Wally’s career has been in sales and executive leadership positions, with a focus on technology industries. His past career positions have included Peat, Marwick Mitchell & Co., IBM, SynOptics, FORE Systems, Content Technologies and Local Marketers. He is currently a Vice President at Salire Partners.
He lives on Mercer Island with his wife Paula, the “non-adult” portion of their six children, and two golden retrievers. In his time away from work he engages in life with his family and friends, enjoying ball games, vacations, adventures, reading, and bicycling.
